Let’s face it: many people rise and flounder.
Trust me, I get it:
I used to do exactly the same thing.
I used to sleep in quite often.
And by sleep in, I mean well past noon.
In fact, the latest I’ve ever slept till was 4pm.
I remember I would wake-up in a state of urgency. Like “Oh my God, I need to get stuff done,” which as you can imagine caused anxiety and stress immediately upon waking.
It was simply not a healthy way to start the day.
Fast forward ten years, and sleeping in for me now is 9am!
A huge difference between when I was sleeping in in my late teens and early 20s.
Most days I’m up between 6am and 8am, and what a huge difference that makes in how my day unfolds.
First off, waking-up early allows me to peacefully transition into the day, which typically really starts for me between 9am and 10am.
So I use the morning to relax, meditate, and reflect on what I’m grateful for as well as what needs to be done that day.
I avoid any sources of news or social media.
(Perhaps that shall be a topic for another time.)
I just allow myself to Be in the morning.
Now think of the common morning routine of many:
They force themselves out of bed using an obnoxious alarm, drink a couple cups of caffeinated coffee– I always choose green tea in the morning, by the way– watch the news for “the weather,” and reluctantly go to work, possibly stressed or anxious about things to come.
That’s no way to begin the day.
Just like how when I would sleep in till 4pm and wake-up in a state of urgency, starting your day as noted above is detrimental and unhealthy even.
I would say it’s ALWAYS ideal to give yourself at least 2 hours of meditative time before you even get ready for the day.
This will allow you to smoothly transition into your day rather than abruptly starting it.
You see, when you rise and SHINE– cliche and corny, I know, but hear me out– you automatically start your day on the road to success.
You wake-up feeling relaxed and excited for what’s to come.
When you rise and SHINE, simply put, you WIN!
